    Charles N. Crouse, owner and proprietor of the Crouse Hotel at South Fork for more than 40 years, ranks among the prominent business men and highly esteemed citizens of Cambria County. He was born in Baltimore, Md., April 7, 1856, and is the son of Isaac Newton and Rebecca (Callison) Crouse.
    Isaac Newton Crouse was born in Baltimore, where he spent his entire life. He conducted one of the leading wholesale grocery establishments of that city for a number of years. To Mr. and Mrs. Crouse the folliwing children were born: George and Jennie; Anna; Emma; and William, all of whom are deceased; Charles M., the subject of this sketch; and Lizzie, resides in Baltimore, Md.
    Charles N. Crouse was educated in Baltimore. When he was 16 years of age he entered the employ as a fireman of the Northern Central Railroad, later a branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad. In 1878 he came to Johnstown, where he was associated with the Cambria Steel Company until 1884. He then located at South Fork as manager of the Lake Hotel. Two years later he purchased his present hotel, which was built in 1872 by Samuel Paul. Mr. Crouse is widely known throughout Cambria County as the oldest hotel owner and proprietor in this section.
    On May 22, 1882, Mr. Crouse was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Horner, a daughter of Joseph and Eva (Eder) Horner, both deceased. To Mr. and Mrs. Charles N. Crouse the following children were born: One child died in infancy; May, married John Shryock, lives in Baltimore, Md., and they have six children, Margaret, Lehr, John, Rose Mary, deceased, Donald and Reobert; and Rose Mary, deceased.
    Mr. Crouse is a Democrat and a member of St. James Catholic Church, South Fork.

    William Hall, popular theatre owner of St. Michael, was born in Tioga County, Pa., Feb. 19, 1883, and is the son of William and Margaret (Summers) Hall.
    William Hall, deceased, was a native of England. After coming to this country he worked in the coal mines of Pennsylvania. His widow, who was born in Schuylkill County, Pa., later married John Lloyd, merchant, and lives at St. Michael. To William and Margaret (Summers) Hall seven children were born: William, the subject of this sketch; Margaret, Bella, Jennie, Katie, Charles, and James.
