Francis Callistus Sharbaugh, an attorney-at-law, and one of the present official court stenographers for the Forty-Seventh Judicial District of Pennsylvania, was born at Carrolltown, Cambria County, Oct. 14, 1871, the son of John W. and Mary (Sherry) Sharbaugh.     Jacob Sharbaugh, grandfather of Francis C. Sharbaugh, was a native of Germany, and among his children was John W., father of the subject of this sketch. He was reared on the farm and followed that calling, together with blacksmithing, which trade he mastered early in life. About 1860 he removed to Carrolltown and engaged in the mercantile business, with which he was connected until the time of his death. He was a good business man, and influential in the Catholic Church. Politically, he was a Democrat. He was known for his liberality in all charitable causes. He married Mary Sherry, born Aug. 15, 1848, and died May 5, 1877. She was born in Allegheny Township, near Loretto, Cambria County, and was the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Kay) Sherry. The Sherry family was among the early settlers of this county, the ancestors locating soon after the McGuires made their settlement. After the death of his wife in 1877, Mr. Sharbaugh married Catherine Yinger, of Carrolltown, by whom he has had seven children, three of whom survive: Gertrude Drury, Thelma Fees and John W.
Francis C. Sharbaugh was educated in the public schools of Carrolltown, at the Iron City College, Pittsburgh, and at St. Vincent's College, Westmoreland County, Pa., graduating from the latter institution in 1891. Stephens, and still later again by the Hon. John E. Evans, the Hon. John H. McCann, and Hon. S. Lemon Reed, the latter being the president of the Orphan's Court of the district.
