until 1900, when Mr. Reed went abroad with his wife. Upon his return to Ebensburg he resumed the practice of law and continued until June 11, 1919, when Governor Sproul appointed him president judge of the Orphans' Court, Cambria County. He was nominated and elected the same fall and continued to fill this office in a most capable and trustworthy manner. He also presided in common pleas and quarter session courts for several of the counties, and especially at Philadelphia.
    Mr. Reed has been one of the directors of the American National Bank of Ebensburg since its incorporation, and since 1911 has served as president of the institution.
    On Oct. 18, 1893, Mr. Reed was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Evans, of Ebensburg, the daughter of John O. and Lydia (Davis) Evans. Mr. Evans was born in Wales, and his wife was a native of Ebensburg. He died in 1876 and his wife died in 1915. Mr. and Mrs. Reed have no children.
    In politics Mr. Reed is identified with the Republican party. He served as school director for nine years, as president of the Ebensburg School Board for five years, and as supervisor of the census for the Sixteenth District of Pennsylvania in 1910. He holds membership in the Congregational Church and Sons of Veterans.




    Augustus J Cornely is well known in Cambria County as the capable postmaster of Nanty Glo. He was born at Madera, Pa., Aug. 15, 1873, and is the son of James and Christina (Bowers) Cornely.
    James Cornely, deceased, was born at Wilmore, Cambria County, and his wife was a native of Clearfield County, Pa. He received a common school education and was a blacksmith by trade. He later established a general mercantile business at Madera, Pa., and also served as postmaster at that place. After many years of successful business, Mr. Cornely sold out and lived retired until his death in 1898. His wife died in 1916. To Mr. and Mrs. Cornely eight children were born, as follows: Flora and Emma, both deceased; Joel, lives at Madera, Pa.; William P., lives at Madera, pa., where he is general manager of the Swoope Coal Company; Augustus J., the subject of this sketch; Charles L., lives at Madera, where he is engaged in business; James M., a prominent physician and surgeon at Madera; and May, lives at Madera.
