Dr. Guy Roland Anderson, who has been engaged in the practice of his profession at Barnesboro since 1900, is among the prominent and widely known physicians and surgeons of Cambria County. He was born at Woodland, Clearfield County, Pa., Aug. 1, 1873, and is the son of Rev. Joseph F. and Drucilla (Tallhelm) Anderson.
Rev. Joseph F. Anderson, who has just celebrated his 50th anniversary as a member of the Methodist Episcopal Conference, is a native of Pennsylvania. He was born in Bedford County, March 17, 1849, and his wife was also born in that county and is the daughter of Rev. J. F. Tallhelm, deceased. Reverend and Mrs. Anderson, who live at Bellwood, Pa., are the parents of the following children: John Max, was killed while in service in France during the World War while serving as a member of Company C, 110th Regiment, U. S. Infantry; Dr. G. R., the subject of this sketch; Effa G., married Harvey M. Cassidy, lives at Altoona [sic], Pa.; Rosa T., died in 1915, was the wife of Herbert Jones, of Altoona, Pa.; and Jessie, lives at home.
Dr. G. R. Anderson received his early education in the public schools, graduated at Dickinson Seminary, Williamsport, Pa., 1895, and in 1899 was graduated from the School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. His interne work was done at Williamsport City Hospital, after which he established his present practice at Barnesboro.
On Oct. 21, 1908, doctor Anderson was united in marriage with Miss Bertha C. Sharbaugh, the daughter of C. A. and Minnie (Houck) Sharbaugh, of Carrolltown, Pa. They have two children: Joseph Charles, born Nov. 30, 1909, a student at Mercersburg Academy; and Nancy Jane, born June 11, 1912, a student. Mrs. Anderson died May 15, 1926, after an illness of several months, aged 43 years, 17 days.
Doctor Anderson is a Republican and a member of St. John's Methodist Episcopal Church. He is affiliated with the Masonic Lodge; Williamsport Consistory; Shrine and Jaffa Temple, Altoona; Tall Cedars, Ebensburg; and Merritt Club, Barnesboro. He is identified with the Cambria County, Pennsylvania State and the American Medical Associations and is a progressive man in his profession.
Doctor Anderson has been active in public school work. He was elected school director in Barnesboro in 1903 and has served continuously since that date, and has been president of the school board since 1905.
