    John M. Dilling is an enterprising and progressive business man of Nanty Glo, where he is a member of the firm of Dilling & Barnhart. He was born in Liberty Township, Bedford County, Pa., Aug. 15, 1891, and is the son of George H. and Nancy Ann (Replogle) Dilling.
    George H. Dilling, deceased, was a native of Liberty Township, Bedford County. He began life as a farmer and later engaged in the meat business, but due to ill health retired from business and taught school for several terms. He was then connected with the Grand Union Tea Company for 18 years, after which he served as a rural mail carrier for 17 years. He died March 28, 1925, and is buried in Liberty Township. His widow, who was born at Waterside, Pa., died at Nanty Glo, March 25, 1926. Mr. Dilling was a Democrat, served on the school board, and held membership in the Church of the Brethren. To Mr. and Mrs. Dilling ten children were born, as follows: Bertha, married H. W. Troutman, lives at Altoona; C. R., lives at Nanty Glo, a sketch of whom appears elsewhere in this history; John H., the subject of this sketch; Catherine, married Ernest Replogle, lives at Morrison Cove, Pa.; Elizabeth, married Calvin Blough, lives at Windber, Pa.; Paul, a World War veteran, lives at Hopewell, Pa.; William, lives at Everett, Pa.; Ruth, married L. J. Learn, lives at Nettleton, Pa.; Georgia, married John Beaver, lives at Entrekin, Pa.; and Martha, a teacher, lives at Nanty Glo.
    John H. Dilling received his education in the schools of Liberty Township and began his business career in the employ of the Windber Lumber Company. In May, 1919, he removed to Nanty Glo, where he was identified with the Nanty Glo Lumber & Construction Company until October, 1920, when he became associated in the lumber business with his brother, C. R. Dilling, and I. E. Barnhart. This firm continued in business until 1924, when C. R. Dilling resigned to engage in business for himself. Dilling & Barnhart are well known general contractors of Cambria County and have an extensive business.

    On Nov. 30, 1911, Mr. Dilling was united in marriage with Miss Daisy Statler, a daughter of Ephriam and Mary Ann (Seese) Statler. Mr. Statler, retired, was a leading farmer and stockman of Somerset County, Pa. He is a Republican and a member of the Church of the Brethren. Mr. and Mrs. Statler have ten children as follows: Lottie, deceased; Henry, lives at Windber; Elizabeth, married Walter Berkey, lives in Paint Township, Somerset County; Daisy Dilling; Rev. F. B., lives at Morrellville, Pa.; Eva, attends Juniata College; Minnie, lives in Philadelphia; Lulu, married
