1900, a graduate of Spangler High and St. Mary's College, Scranton, Pa., lives at home; Verelda, born in 1903, a graduate of Spangler High School and Notre Dame College, Baltimore, Md.; Rembrandt, born in 1908, attends St. Vincent's College; Melville, twin brother of Rembrandt, attends St. Vincent's College; Darrell, born in 1910, attends St. Vincent's College; and Waberga, born in 1913. S.A. Kuhn is among the highly esteemed and well known citizens of Hastings, where he has served as station agent for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 14 years. He was born in Perry County, Pa., Jan. 8, 1868, and is a son of Jacob and Catherine A. (Fry) Kuhn. Jacob Kuhn, deceased, was a native of Perry County, born in 1831. He engaged in general farming during his entire life and was also a millwright. He died in 1908 and is buried at Newport, Pa. His wife was born in Juniata County in 1836 and died in 1893. Mr. and Mrs. Kuhn were the parents of 12 children, all of whom are deceased except two. S.A. Kuhn was reared and educated at New Bloomfield and after completing a course at Bloomfield Academy he engaged in teaching school in Perry County. In 1892 he entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad at Patton as a telegrapher, and in December of that year was appointed station agent at Westover. He later served as agent at Patton and Wehrum, and in 1912 was transferred to Hastings, where he has since resided. On Dec. 29, 1892, Mr. Kuhn was married to Miss Emma Smith of Newport, Pa., a daughter of John M. and Leah (Smith) Smith. To Mr. and Mrs. Kuhn four children have been born: Anna, married R. M. Miller, lives at Pittsburgh; Lee, lives in Philadelphia; Lena M., married Domenic Dimento, lives at Hastings; and Carl, at home. Mr. Kuhn is a Democrat and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, of which he has served as president, trustee and Sunday school superintendent for a number of years. |
