F. J. Strittmatter attended the public schools of Carroll Township and until he reached the age of 21 years was associated in business with his father in stock raising. In 1902 he became interested in the bee industry and in 1923 incorporated The Strittmatter Company, of which there are 123 stockholders. The Strittmatter Company also owns a large poultry farm and operates one of the largest greenhouses in the county. He has conducted the latter business since 1902 and is now president of the company. B. W. Harding, cashier of The First National Bank of Gallitzin, Pa., was born Oct. 16, 1883 in Pittston, Luzerne County, Pa., a son of James and Charlotte (Rutledge) Harding. James Harding was born in Pennsylvania and during his active business life was engaged in mining. He was foreman and superintendent in the Pittston mines of the Old Erie Coal Company for 28 years. Mr. Harding lost his eyesight about 20 years ago in a mine blast, and is now living retired at Pittston, Pa. He is a member of the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Harding was a native of New York State, born in 1860, and died in 1891. Their children are: Clara, married Arthur Lewis, resides in Wyoming, Pa., where Mr. Lewis is a painting contractor; B.W., the subject of this sketch; Florence, married Charles F. Bashore, mine superintendent, resides at Clarksburg, W.Va.; and Robert G., resides in New Jersey, where he is engaged as plastering and lathing contractor. B.W. Harding attended the public and high schools of Pittston. He worked in the mines for a time when he was but nine years of age, and during his high school days clerked in a drug store, opening up the store in the morning, working at noon time and after school.
