Mr. Turgeon is an independent voter and a member of St. John's Catholic Church. He is a member of the American Legion and stands at the head of his profession in Johnstown. He has been interested in photography since he was 11 years of age.
Elliott Sanford Henry, executive head of the Henry Motor Car Company, of Portage, is one of the alert and progressive business men of Cambria County. He was born at Rockford, Ill., May 16, 1870, and is the son of M. M. and Emma C. (Roushe) Henry.
M. M. Henry, deceased, was a native of Pennsylvania. He met an accidental death April 21, 1894, and is buried at Petersburg, Pa. For a number of years he was identified with the J. C. Martin Company of Portage as a bookkeeper. His widow, also a native of Pennsylvania, died March 16, 1926. Mr. Henry was a Democrat and a member of the Presbyterian Church. To Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Henry the following children were born: Elliott Sanford, the subject of this sketch; Erma Blanch, married F. M. Zeth, lives at Hopewell, Pa.; and W. W., lives at Altoona, Pa.
After completing his schooling in the district schools, Elliott Sanford Henry spent several years farming. He then clerked in a mercantile store at Hopewell for five years, and in 1895 located at Portage, where he has since resided. He conducted a general store for a few years, later managed a hotel, and in 1917 became interested in the automobile business as local dealer for the Studebaker, Willys-Knight and Overland automobiles. He has a first-class repair shop and carries a complete line of automobile accessories. Mr. Henry is also proprietor of Henry's Meat Market, one of Portage's leading business houses.
On July 24, 1895, Mr. Henry was united in marriage with Miss Minerva Fluke, a native of Bedford County, Pa., and the daughter of Eliah and Belle (Bowers) Fluke. The former is deceased and the latter lives at Huntingdon, Pa. To Mr. and Mrs. Henry the following children were born: (1) M. M., lives at Portage, married Miss Hilda V. Schweitzer, of Buffalo, H. Y. He is a World war veteran; (2) Isabel Catherine, married William Hough, lives at Portage and they have a son, Frank Sanford Hough; and (3) Helen Gertrude, was graduated from Huntingdon Normal School and Indiana State Normal School in 1926, lives at home.
Mr. Henry is a Democrat and is widely and favorably known in this section of the state.
