    He also carries a full line of dairy products and canned goods and maintains delivery service in Lilly and the surrounding community.
    On Dec. 10, 1908, Mr. George was married to Mrs. Amanda Jane Thrower, of Lilly, the daughter of Thomas and Sophia Thrower. To Mr. and Mrs. George have been born five children: Helen, Raymond, Edward, Evelyn, and Lucille, all at home.
    Mr. George is a member of the Lutheran Church and is affiliated with the Knights of Pythias, Lilly, and Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Cresson. He is a Republican and has served as a member of the council since December, 1925.




    J. T. Slinger, paymaster for the Barnes and Tucker Coal Company, Barnesboro, with whom he has been identified since 1885, is a native of England. He is a son of Nicholas and Jane C. (Seed) Slinger.
    Nicholas Slinger spent his entire life in England and was interested in agriculture. He died in 1898 and his wife died in 1900. They were the parents of the following children: Tempest, lives in Clearfield County, Pa.; J. T., the subject of this sketch; Mary and Margaret, live in England; Grace, deceased; Anna, William E. A. and Jennie, all deceased.
    In 1880 J. T. Slinger came to this country from England and located at Phillipsburg, Pa., Five years later he entered the employ of the Barnes Coal Company as clerk. He has served in various capacities around the mines and has held his present responsible position since 1898.
    On June 20, 1876, Mr. Slinger was married in England to Miss Janet Benson, who died Nov. 3, 1893. To Mr. and Mrs. Slinger the following children were born: Lillie M. and Jane, both at home; Grace Benson, lives in Philadelphia, where she is engaged in teaching; Ruth Hall, married, lives in Arizona; Elizabeth Ann, married E. A. Lawson, lives in Somerset County, Pa.; and two children died in infancy.
    Mr. Slinger is a Republican, a member of the Episcopal Church, Golden Eagles, and Knights of Malta. He has served as a member of the school board since 1898. Mr. Slinger has various business interests and is president of the Gallitzin Building and Loan Company. He is held in high regard throughout the community and is an excellent citizen.
    The coal lands of D. S. McAnulty, Joseph Porter and L. Plouse were purchased by M. T. Barnes, one of the pioneer coal operators of Clearfield County, about 1893. The firm that began operations here in 1893 was the
