968 HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY

    William M. Bosserman, who has served as supervising principal of the Patton schools, is among the capable officials and substantial citizens of Cambria County. He was born in East Berlin, Adams County, Pa., Oct 4, 1878, and is the son of John B. and Catherine (Gochenauer) Bosserman.
    John B. Bosserman is a native of East Berlin, Pa., and his wife was born in Big Mount, York County, Pa. He has spent his entire life as a farmer and is vice president of the East Berlin National Bank. Mr. and Mrs. Bosserman attended Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa, from which he was graduated in 1897. He taught for two years in the rural schools of Adams County; for three years in the grammar school in at Juniata, Pa.; for five years was assistant principal of the Patton schools; and for the last 19 years has been supervising principal. During his spare time Mr. Bosserman is a solicitor or the Equitable Life Assurance Company, and in the summer vacations he sells school supplies for Kurtz Brothers in Cambria and Somerset Counties. For a number of years he has been president of the Patton Building and Loan Association and treasurer of the Patton Auto Company.
    In politics Mr. Bosserman is identified with the Republican party. H is widely known and well liked in the community.




    S. L. Briney is a member of the firm of Briney Confectionery Company, Johnstown. He was born in this city, Sept 14, 1880, and is a son of Lealander L. and Mary (Yocum) Briney.
    Lealander L. Briney, who is now living retired in Johnstown, was with the Cambria Steel Company for 52 years. Mrs. Briney died in 1919. They were the parents of the following children: Charles E., chief of police, Johnstown; Maud, married Seal Shelley; Gertrude, married James Wallace; S. L., the subject of this sketch; and Mary, married Charles Preall.
    S. L. Briney was educated in the public schools of Johnstown, after which he entered the employ of the Cambria Steel Company, where he remained until 1915. The Briney Confectionery Company purchased the business of H. Tomlinson, which was established in 1900, and the partner-
