976 HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY

    Mr. Barker is a Republican and a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, being a member of Hugh Jones Post No. 556. He is affiliated with Summit Lodge No 312, F. and A. M., and the oldest living past master; Highland Lodge no. 428; and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
    In October, 1925, a testimonial dinner was tendered Mr. Barker, who is the only ex-judge of the Cambria County courts now living, and was sponsored by the Lawyers Club of Cambria County. Mr. Barker vividly portrayed episodes of his career as a lawyer and jurist in this county, explaining is association with some persons or events with interesting.




    John Leahey, deceased, was for many years a prominent businessman and leading citizen of Lilly. He was born in Ireland in 1850, the son of John and Elizabeth Leahey.
    At an early age John Leahey emigrated to this country and settled in Pennsylvania, where he was interested in the mining industry. He was superintendent of the W. H. Piper interests for 18 years, after which he formed a partnership with Laughman and Wigton, of Altoona, Pa. He was later owner and operator of the Bear Rock Coal Company. Mr. Leahey was one of the founders of the First National Bank of Lilly, and served as its first president. He died Feb. 13, 1922, and is buried at Lilly.
    On May 11, 1874, Mr. Leahey was united in marriage with Miss Mary Margaret McGomigle, a native of Lilly and the daughter of Jeremiah and Anna (Moyer) McGomigle, both deceased. Mr. and Mrs. McGomigle were natives of Ireland and early settlers of Lilly. To Mr. and Mrs. Leahey the following children were born: Mrs. H. A. Leap; Edward W.; Mrs. Regina Denny, lives in Cresson; Alma, lives at home; Jeremiah, lives at Lilly; Agnes, a graduate nurse of Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, lives in Lilly, Pa.; Harry, lives at Lilly; Brady P., lives at Lilly; Marenta, lives at Johnstown; Dr. F. J., a graduate in the practice of medicine in Lilly, Pa.; Abrilla, lives at Johnstown; and Pauline, a graduate of Mt. Aloysius College, Cresson, lives at home.
    Mr. Leahey was a Democrat and a member of the St. Brigid's Catholic Church of Lilly. He was highly esteemed by his fellow townsmen.
