Mr. Lantzy has served five terms on the Hastings School Board, has served as a member of the City Council for one term, and at present is treasurer of the borough. He is a Democrat, a member of the Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and B. P. O. Elks, Lodge 102; L. O. O. M., and United Commercial Travelers, Lodge No. 303. He has always been an energetic man who stands well in the esteem of his neighbors and fellow citizens. John E. Fawcett, manage of the Eureka Store at St. Michael, is a leading business man of Cambria County. He was born at New Castle, England, May 4, 1874, and is a son of William and Anna (Balam) Fawcett. Both William Fawcett and his wife were natives of England. They made their first trip to this country in 1860, later returned to England until 1883, when they again came to the United States and settled near Scranton, Pa. In 1874 they moved to Tioga County, Pa., where they lived until 1883, when they moved to Clearfield County, and lived at Dubois, where Mr. Fawcett died in 1911, and his wife died in 1895. John E. Fawcett received his education in the public schools at Dubois, where he engaged in the general mercantile business until 1895. He spent the following three years at Helvetia, Pa., in the employ of the Mahoning Supply Company. He then became associated with the Eureka stores, at that time known as the Eureka Supply Company. Ltd. He spent several years with the company at Anita and Horatio, Pa., and in 1905 entered the employ of the Keystone Store Company at Onondaga, Pa. Two years later he entered the employ of the Tyler Mercantile Company, at Tyler, Pa., and was later associated with the Clearfield Supply Company at Rositer and Barnesboro, Pa. In 1911 Mr. Fawcett returned to the Eureka stores and was located at Windber until 1912, at which time he was made manager of the St. Michael store. The Eureka store is one of a chain system of 88 stores, which are operated throughout Pennsylvania. The officers of the company are: Thomas Fisher, Philadelphia, president; and George A. Smith, Windber, vice president. The local store building, which was erected in 1912, carries a stock valued at $60,000, and employs 14 people. They are dealers in general wearing apparel, shoes, dry goods, and furniture, and also have a high-grade meat and grocery department. |
