HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY 1061


    The Vital Sales Company, with offices at 402 Fisher Building, are agents for the Vital Vacuum Sweeper in Somerset and Cambria counties. This business was established in Johnstown in 1924, and employs six people.
    On Dec. 4, 1881, Mr. Hartman was married to Miss Frances B. Hoover, a daughter of Rudolph and Katherine Hoover, of Woodburg, Pa. Mr. Hoover was a pioneer farmer, miller and merchant of that community, and was well known and highly esteemed. To Mr. and Mrs. Hartman the following children have been born: (1) Josephine, married L.V. Mertz, has a daughter, Margaret; (2) Clarence R., married Myrtle Derener, lives at Altoona, and they have two children, William R. and Andrew Jackson; (3) Andrew Jackson, married Olive Heffley, and they have a daughter, Phyllis; (4) George R., married Camilla Motz of Paris, France; (5) James W., married Nellie Turner; (6) Robert V., a veteran of the World War, married Helen Schenkmeyer, and they have one child, Dorothy; and (7) Chalmer H.
    Mr. Hartman is a member of the Independant Order of Odd Fellows, the Royal Arcanum, International Bible Student, and the Socialist Party. He and his family are well known in Johnstown and have many friends.




    William Fisher is a substantial citizen of South Fork, where he is in the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company. He was born in Westmoreland County, Pa., Dec. 25, 1865, and is the son of George and Rose (Poncil) Fisher.
    George Fisher, deceased, was a native of Pennsylvania, born in 1835. He was a shoemaker by trade. He died in 1900 and his wife, also a native of Pennsylvania, died in 1875.
    William Fisher received his education in the district schools and in 1881 entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad as a telegraph operator at New Derry. In 1890 he was transferred to Everson, Pa., and in 1897 to South Fork, where he has since served as train dispatcher.
    In 1898 Mr. Fisher was married to Miss Mary F. Carter, the daughter of John and Bridget Carter, residents of Scottsdale, Pa. They have three daughters, Clara, Pauline and Mary, all at home.
    Mr. Fisher is a Democrat, and a member of St. John's Catholic Church. He and his family are held in high regard throughout the community.
