HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY 1063

    On April 28, 1867, Mr. Beilstein was married to Miss Mary Glitsch, the daughter of Caser and Anne E. (Hoffman) Glitsch, and granddaughter of Christian and Elizabeth Glitsch, the former born in 1800, died in 1891. Casper Glitsch was born in Laundahausa, Hesse-Darmstadt, 1822, and died July 24, 1883. He came to America in 1847, was by occupation a machinist, was in the employ of the Cambria Steel Company for 35 years, and during this period worked overtime in order to accumulate sufficient capital to purchase land. In his study of English, which he could speak and read with fluency, he made use of an English and German Bible. He voted the Democratic ticket until the breaking out of the Civil War, was a noted politician and widely and favorably known among the leaders of his party. He served in the capacity of school director for many years, being very active in educational matters in Johnstown, and also was a member of the committee for Sandyvale. He was energetic and progressive in spirit and resolute in business purpose, and therefore was numbered among the most useful successful men of affairs in Johnstown. He was an active member of the German Lutheran Church. His wife, Anne E. (Hoffman) Glitsch, was the daughter of Conrad Hoffman. They had the following children: Henry, born in 1846; Elizabeth, born in 1848; Mary Beilstein, born in 1850; Susan, born in 1852; Christian G., born in 1854; Sophia, born in 1858; Louisa, born in 1860; Lena J., born in 1862; Amelia, born in 1864; George L., born in 1866; and Eegina, born in 1869.
    To William H. and Mary (Glitsch) Beilstein the following children were born: Laura Christina, born Dec. 18, 1868, married Aug. 20, 1891, to Dr. J. W. Wirt, lives at 1099 McKinley Avenue, Johnstown; Charles C., mention of whom is made below; and Susan E., born Dec. 19, 1872, married June 22, 1899, to Otto Doepfer, lives at 1389 Franklin Street, Johnstown, and they have a son, Arthur C., born May 25, 1902.
    Charles C. Beilstein was born March 15, 1871, and met death by accident Sept. 3, 1928. He was married first to Miss Ella May Grubb; second to Miss Helena Newman. By his first marriage he had three daughters: Mary Jane, born June 7, 1893, died Sept. 15, 1900; Viola Ruth, born April 16, 1895, married William J. Dowling, lives at 1111 Franklin Street, Johnstown, and they have a daughter, Mary Gretchen, born May 1, 1918; and Gretchen, who lives with her grandmother, Mrs. William H. Beilstein. She is prominent in musical circles of Johnstown and is a graduate of Mount Aloysius Academy, Cresson, as is also her sister.
