1126 HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY

Mr. Crum now lives retired at Crum, Pa. He was a Democrat in politics for many years but is now a Republican. Mrs. Crum died Dec. 24, 1923, and is buried in Crum Cemetery, Somerset County, Pa. She was a member of the Christian Church, in which she was an active worker. To Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Crum, 11 children were born, as follows: Ida, Josephine, Geraldine and Emily, all deceased, buried in Crum Cemetery; Della, married Frank Pfaff, Johnstown; Clara, married Luther Lohr, Buckstown, Pa.; Nate, resides in Johnstown; Harry, resides in Windber; Grace, Married Roy Oyler, resides in Winder; George, the subject of this sketch; and William, resides at Arrow, Pa.
    Marian (Oldham) Crum was the daughter of William and Mary (Berkebile) Oldham, natives of Somerset County, where he was an agriculturist and stockman. Both are deceased and buried in Crum Cemetery The Oldham family came from Oldham, England, coming to the United States in the 17th century. They settled in Somerset County. Oldham, England was named after the Oldham family.
    George Crum received his education in the public schools of Somerset County, after which he became an inspector of mine timber for M. E. McNeal. Later he engaged in farming and saw mill work until 1910, when he came to Johnstown and became associated with the Smith?Varner Lumber Company. In 1917 he entered the employ of the Pen Traffic Company as delivery man for the household furnishing department and in 1924 was made assistant manager of this department.
    On April 13, 1910, Mr. Crum was united in marriage with Miss Cavila Lambert, a daughter of Hiram and Rebecca (Miller) Lambert. Mr. Lambert was a farmer for many years in Buckstown, Somerset County. He is now retired and they live in Johnstown. To Mr. and Mrs. Crum three children were born: Mary and Helen, students; and Maxine.
    In politics Mr. Crum is a Republican. He has always taken an active interest in all civic affairs and has held many offices. He was elected justice of the peace in 1919, his commission to expire in 1926, but was reelected in 1925 for a period of six years; has been boro tax collector, and was elected burgess in 1921 and reelected in 1925 for a period of four years. He is a member of the Christian Church, in which he is an elder. He has taught the Ladies Bible Class five years and the Men's Bible Class for five years. Both Mr. and Mrs. Crum are well known and highly respected citizens of Cambria County.
