VINCO COUPLE WED HALF CENTURY AGO

Open house will be observed tomorrow at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry M. [sic] Griffith, Vinco, who will be marred 50 years on Christmas Day. The open-house observance will be from 2 to 6 p.m. A family dinner will be held at the home on Christmas Day.

Mr. Griffith and the former Hannah Wissinger were united in marriage at the bride's home in Jackson Twp. by Rev. Wilburn. Attendants were the late Gertrude Griffith, a sister of the bridegroom, and Cloyd Roudabush, present operator of the Y.M.C.A. Cafeteria.

The couple, both 76 years of age, are enjoying good health. Mr. Griffith was employed by the State Board of Health for 24 years before retiring a number of years ago. Following their marriage they resided in Johnstown, later moving to the farm in Vinco where they now reside.

They are parents of four children - Dwight, Kenneth, Mrs. Mary Leidy and John, the last two mentioned twins, all residing in Vinco. They also have nine grandchildren. One grandson, Jack D. Griffith, is serving with the Army at Blanding, Fla.

WED 50 YEARS CHRISTMAS DAY

A family dinner yesterday following open house on Sunday, marked the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Harry H. Griffith (above) of Vinco, lifelong residents of the district. Mr. Griffith, employed by the State Department of Health for 24 years, retired several years ago, but is still engaged as a health officer in various communities of the area.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry T. Griffith of Vinco, long time residents of this district will mark their 55th anniversary Monday at a family Christmas dinner at their home.

Harry H. Griffith and the former Hannah Wissinger were united in marriage Christmas Day at the home of the bride's parents in Jackson Township by Rev. B. R. Wilburn, then pastor of Franklin-street Methodist Church.

In 1905, the moved to Vinco from Johnstown where they have since resided. Mrs. Griffith was born July 8, 1868 in Jackson Township. He was born Nov. 29, 1868 in Johnstown.

They are the parents of four children -- R. D., Harry and John W. Griffith and Mrs. Mary C. Leidy, all living in Vinco. There are 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

He is a former employee of the State Department of Health. He retired after 24 years for the department. He still is employed by Portage Borough as a health officer.
