NANTY-GLO JOURNAL NANTY-GLO, PA 1926 29 Apr 1926 Submitted by Lynne Canterbury ANOTHER BARBER SHOP The basement room under Rinehart's Pharmacy is being fitted up and an outside stairway being built to it by James DeFrank of Big Bend who will open a new barber shop in it when the place is in readiness. Mr. DeFrank also has a barber shop in Big Bend. One of his sons will have charge of the shop here. ATTENDED NEPHEW'S FUNERAL Walter and James Fisher and Mr. and Mrs. Colin Alexander left for Danville, Ill., Friday, where they were called by the death of their sister's child, a six-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Adamson, former residents of Nanty-Glo, who died of pneumonia. The funeral was held in Danville on Sunday. NEW METROPOLITAN AGENT Lester Evans, formerly with the Cupp Grocery Co. as manager of their Nanty-Glo store, succeeds his brother as agent for the Metropolitan Insurance Co. here, beginning his duties this week. D. R. Evans, as mentioned last week, goes to Johnstown as assistant district manager. The position of manager for the Cupp store has not yet been filled, but Frank Tokar from one of the Johnstown stores is temporarily in charge. QUITS BUSINESS FOR FARM Edward Smith has closed his grocery and market which he has conducted at the corner of Roberts and Lloyd streets for a number of years, and with his family will move onto their farm along the pike, between Nanty-Glo and Ebensburg, in the near future. NO. 3 WORKING FIVE DAYS After working every day for a whole year, the Helsley No. 3 mine was idle yesterday. It is the intention to work the mine about five days each week for a while, until the coal business picks up again. NEWS Mrs. Rebecca Marshall went to Wilmerding, Friday, where she is spending the week with her son and family. Miss Vivian Collins of Williamsport, spent last week here at the home of her parents, Dr. and Mrs. H. A. Collins. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Tobin and Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Bateman of Pitcairn spent Sunday at the home of Thos. Tobin. Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Foust and family of Homer City visited at the home of Mrs. Foust's sister, Mrs. Annie Empfield, Sunday. J. Lawrence Luther, state secretary of the Knights of Columbus, was present at the Institution of a new council at Natrona, Sunday. Rev. and Mrs. H. J. Headlee, Homestead, and Rev. F. W. Henry of Indiana were here, Friday, to attend the annual gathering of the Allegheny Region Anniversary Association. Mr. and Mrs. William Hughes of New Kensington visited over the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Tobin, and other friends. Mrs. Hughes was formerly Miss Kathleen Tobin. Mrs. C. L. Davies and Mrs. Clara Griffith attended a meeting of the Federation League of Dry Voters of Cambria county in the Y.M.C.A. building in Johnstown, Saturday, at which Gifford Pinchot was unanimously endorsed for the Republication nomination for United States senator. Among friends here from a distance to attend the funeral of Mrs. Thos. B. Evans were Mrs. Archie Husted of Morris Run; Mrs. Thos. Scaife of Elmira, N.Y.; Wm. Evans of Canton, Pa.; Mrs. Joseph Hold and Matthew Catchpole of Dubois; Mrs. Robert Meddland of Rochester, N.Y.; Mr. and Mrs. James Young and John Young of East Brady, Pa.
