High School, and World war veteran, lives in Johnstown, married Marian McConaughy, of Ligonier, Pa., and they have two children, Ralph E. and Natalie; Edna Pearl, a graduate of Johnstown High School, married D. W. Hanson, lives in Johnstown, and has two children, Delber and Eugenie O.; Edgar E., a twin brother of Edna Pearl, died in infancy; and Susan O., lives at home. Mark Marcella, retired, is a substantial and highly esteemed citizen of Johnstown, where he was prominent in the hotel business for many years. He was born at St. Mark, Italy, April 24, 1870, the son of Michael and Columba Marcella. Mr. Marcella died in 1879, and his wife died in 1905. Mark Marcella spent his boyhood in his native land, and in May, 1884, emigrated to the United States, arriving in New York with but $4 in his pocket. He remained for three months in New York and made his living by selling produce. He then went to Derby, Conn., where he was employed by a railroad. However, he later returned to New York, but soon went to New Jersey, where he was employed on public work. Mr. Marcella endured many hardships and privations during the early years of his residence in this country, and was employed at various trades, including that of barber. He was employed as a laborer by the Pennsylvania Railroad at Cresson, Pa. He was also engaged in the general mercantile business at Cresson, where he spent about 20 years. He then disposed of his business interests there for $20,000, a store and barber shop, and established his residence in Johnstown as proprietor of the Rathskeller Hotel, which he conducted in a most successful manner until November, 1909, when he retired. He resides in the Marcella House, a hotel owned and operated by his son. On Sept. 20, 1892, Mr. Marcella was united in marriage with Miss Annie Merow, who was born in Germany in 1869.
