    L. E. Heisel is a prosperous farmer and stockman of Adams Township, where he is the proprietor of Harvest Home Farm. He was born on this farm, June 12, 1881, and is the son of Jonathan and Margaret (King) Helsel.
    Jonathan Helsel was born in Richland Township, Cambria County, and his wife was born at Alton, Pa. He engaged in farming during his entire life and met with success. There were four sons born to Mr. and Mrs. Helsel: S. H., lives in Johnstown; G. W., a farmer, lives near Elton; L. E., the subject of this sketch; and J. W., a retired farmer, lives at Elton.
    L. E. Helsel received his education in the schools of Elton and at the age of 21 years purchased the farm where he resides. It contains 81 acres of well improved land and is located on the state highway. Mr. Helsel specialized in the breeding of pure bred Holstein cattle and is one of the largest potato growers in the county.
    On March 4, 1900, Mr. Helsel was united in marriage with Miss Lydia Rhodes, the daughter of Jacob and Catherine (Kring) Rhodes, of Salix, both deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Helsel have four children: Greer, a farmer, lives in Armstrong County, Pa., married Gladys Saxon, and has three children, Billie, Emily Jane, and Jean; Otis, married Grace Miller, lives on the home place; June and Guy, both at home.
    Mr. Helsel is a Republican, a member of the Evangelical Church, the Grange, Cambria County Farm Bureau, Pennsylvania Poultry Association, and Pennsylvania Potato Growers' Association. He is esteemed as one of the progressive citizens of the township.




    G. H. Miller, wholesale flour and feed dealer of Sidman, is a substantial and well known citizen of Cambria County. He was born in Adams Township, Township, Cambria County, Feb. 20, 1889, and is the son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Eash) Miller, natives of Somerset County, Pa.
    Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Miller lived at Dunlo, Pa., for many years, where he was engaged in the general mercantile business. He later owned a farm in Adams Township where he lived for 20 years. He and his wife are deceased. They had five children: Moses, Mary, Emma, G. H. and Joseph.
    G. H. Miller spent his boyhood on his father's farm and received his education at Salix Academy. He taught school for seven years in Adams and Summerhill townships, after which he engaged in the retail grocery
