After completing his schooling, George Owens worked as a member of the surveying corps of the Berwin-White Coal Company for three years. He then engaged in the trucking business until 1924, at which time he opened his garage at Scalp Level. Mr. Owens handles a complete line of automobile accessories and does general repair work. He also operated a filling station. Simon S. Robine is well and favorably known at Summerhill, where he has served as station agent for the Pennsylvania Railroad since 1905. He was born at Lilly, Sept. 5, 1876, and is the son of Peter and Mary (Kearns) Robine. Peter Robine, deceased, was a native of Germany. He was seven years of age when his parents emigrated to this country in 1954. They settled at Lilly, Pa., where Mr. Robine spent the remainder of his life as a miner. He died in 1910. His widow was born at Lilly in 1847 and still resides on the old homestead at that place. To Mr. and Mrs. Robine the following children were born: John; Simon S., the subject of this sketch; Margaret, married F. M. Collins, lives at Pittsburgh; Martha, married Peter Schwan, lives at East Liberty; Amelia, deceased; Thomas, lives at Lilly; and Martin, lives at Altoona, Pa. Simon S. Robine spent his boyhood in Washington Township, Cambria County, and attended the schools of Lilly. He worked in the mines with his father, who had served as mine superintendent for 13 years. In 1900 Mr. Robine entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad at South Fork, where he remained until 1905. He was then transferred to Summerhill, where he has since served in a most capable and trustworthy manner. On Oct. 15, 1902, Mr. Robine was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Quinn, the daughter of James and Mary (Laughlin) Quinn, of Houtzdale, Pa. She died Dec. 14, 1914, leaving the following children: Mary, married C. A. McCall, lives at Lilly; and James, lives with his father at Summerhill.
