R. A. Betz attended the public schools of Summerhill and began his business career as a clerk in the general store of Kirby, where he remained for five years. He was connected with the South Fork Lumber Company for three years, and in 1922 established his present business at Summerhill. He has the local agency for the Chevrolet automobile and handles a complete line of accessories. Dr. Owen Morgan, the subject of this sketch, is recognized as one of the prominent citizens of Johnstown, Pa., where he has engaged in the practice of dentistry since 1901. He was born at Quemahoning, Somerset County, Pa., March 3, 1867, and is the son of William S. and Rebecca Jane (Griffith) Morgan, deceased. Hon. William S. Morgan was a representative citizen of Somerset County during his lifetime and his parents were among the pioneers of Somerset County. He was a widely known woolen manufacturer of Pennsylvania, justice of the peace, postmaster, general merchant and farmer, and served as a member of the State Legislature for several terms, and was prominent in the Masonic fraternity and well known. He died in 1890, and his wife died in 1922. Both were members of the M. E. Church and are buried at Hopewell Cemetery, near Boswell, Somerset County, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Morgan were the parents of the following children: Dr. Owen, the subject of this sketch; May B., the widow of Rev. C. P. Marshall, lives in Ferndale, Johnstown; Louise, married to H. M. Benshoff, lives in Johnstown; Harry Jenkins, died at the age of six years; Margaret, married to Dr. W. W. Grove, a physician, living and practicing in Johnstown; Dr. G. D., a dentist, lives and practices his profession in East Brady, Pa.; Dolly, married David Roth, lives near Tampa, Fla.; Minerva G., deceased, was the wife of Russell Humphreys, of Penn's Grove, N. J.; and June, died at the age of four years. Dr. Owen Morgan spent his boyhood in Somerset County and was educated at local normal schools and Allegheny College, Meadville, Pa., and graduated from Iron City Business College, Pittsburgh, Pa., later being employed by the Cambria Steel Company following the Johnstown flood.
