756 HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY

    Ivan J. McKenrick, well known and successful attorney of Ebensburg, who is recognized as one of the representative members of the bar of Cambria County, was born at Clearfield, Pa., Dec. 27, 1884, and is the son of Joseph Francis and Margaret Eleanor (Read) McKenrick.
    Joseph Francis McKenrick, deceased, was born near Gettysburg, in Adams County, Pa. He was a carpenter, school teacher, and lawyer, and served as district attorney of Clearfield County for two terms. He practiced law in Cambria County from 1892 until 1913, and died Aug. 26, 1913. He was prominent in the Knights of Columbus and at the time of his death was master of the Fourth Degree for the Second District of Pennsylvania. Mr. McKenrick lived near Gettysburg and during the battle of Gettysburg acted as a member of an ambulance corps and helped also to bury the dead. His wife was born in Lawrence Township, and was a member of a prominent pioneer family of Clearfield County, Pa. She died March 26, 1922, and with her husband is buried in the New Catholic Cemetery at Ebensburg. To Mr. and Mrs. McKenrick the following children were born: Paul L., lives at Kittanning, Pa.; Mr. Emory H. Davis, lives at Ebensburg, Pa.; Mrs. Dudley B. Lytle, lives at York, Nebr.; Mrs. James S. Dick. Lives at Roanoke, Va.; Carl R., Esq., lives in Baltimore, Md.; Leo F., lives at Ebensburg, Pa.; Mrs. John K. Mentzer, lives at Brooklyn, N. Y.; and Ivan J., the subject of this sketch.
    Ivan J. McKenrick attended the public schools of Clearfield and Ebensburg and attended Lebanon Valley College, Butler College and the Indiana Law School, having received his degree from the latter institution in 1908. He was admitted to the bar Sept. 5, 1910, and engaged in general practice at Ebensburg with his father until the latter's death in 1913. He has since engaged in practice alone at Ebensburg.
    On Oct. 11, 1916, Mr. McKenrick was united in marriage with Miss Marian Jones, of Ebensburg, the daughter of Dr. Fremont C. and Mary E. (Davis) Jones, natives of Cambria County. Doctor Jones died Oct. 4, 1917, and his widow lives at Ebensburg. Mr. and Mrs. McKenrick have three children: Marian Eleanor, Fremont Jones, and Martha Josephine.
    Mr. McKenrick is a Democrat and has served as solicitor for the borough of Ebensburg since 1914. He is also a member of the school board. He and his family hold membership in the Presbyterian and Congregational churches, and he is affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Masonic Lodge and Kiwanis Club.
