    Leonard S. Jones, attorney of Ebensburg, is among Cambria County's most prominent and influential citizens. He was born in this city, Dec. 27, 1873, and is the son of Thomas L. and Martha (Williams) Jones.
    Thomas L. Jones, deceased, was a veteran of the Civil War. He was born in Wales and when a young man came to this country and settled in Cambria County. He was a farmer at the time of his death, October, 1904. For a number of years he had driven a team for Hon. A. A. Barker, of Ebensburg, and later purchased a farm from Mr. Barker. He was elected poor director of Cambria County on two occasions and died during the second term. Mr. Jones served during the Civil War as a private in the Union Army and was discharged shortly after the surrender of General Lee. His wife, a native of Cambria Township, Cambria County, died in November, 1913. Mr. and Mrs. Jones were the parents of the following children: Chalmers C., deceased; Elizabeth James, lives at Kane, Pa.; Dr. Fremont C., deceased; William G., lives at Ebensburg; Annie M. Jones, lives at Ebensburg; Herman T., lives at Ebensburg; Fred, lives at Ebensburg; and Leonard S., the subject of this sketch.
    After completing his early education at Ebensburg, Leonard S. Jones attended Millersville State Normal School. After entering the teaching profession he taught an ungraded school in the township of Cambria and in the borough of Vintondale for a period of five years. For ten years following he was principal of the Hastings schools. In 1907 Mr. Jones registered as a law student in the office of Samuel Lemmon Reed, Esquire, now president judge of the Orphans' Court of Cambria County. In February, 1911, he was admitted to the bar of Cambria County and has practiced law in this county since that time. From 1915 until 1924 he was solicitor to the county controller, and in January, 1924, was appointed solicitor to the county commissioners of Cambria County.
    In politics Mr. Jones is identified with the Republican party. He is a member of the Congregational Church, and is affiliated with Summit Lodge No. 312, F. & A. M., at Ebensburg, Chapter and Commandery at Johnstown, with Jaffa Temple, Altoona, Pa.
