    In 1881 Mr. Young was united in marriage with Miss Margaret M. Dougherty, a native of Ohio, and the daughter of Augustus and Margaret (Fiscus) Dougherty, natives of Armstrong County, Pa., and both now deceased. To Mr. and Mrs. Young five children were born: Mrs. Sallie Gurley, lives at Johnstown; Robert A., secretary of State Athletic Association of Pennsylvania, lives in Philadelphia; Mrs. Margaret Sallinger, died in February, 1922; Mrs. Nettie S. Zern, lives at Altoona, Pa.; and Mrs. Catherine G. Gockley, lives at South Fork, Pa.
    Mr. Young is a Republican. He served as deputy sheriff from 1889 until 1895; as burgess of Ebensburg for two terms; as mercantile appraiser one year; as deputy treasurer for eight years; and for many years has been justice of the peace. Mr. Young has served on the Vigilant Fire Company of Johnstown since 1885 and is a life member of that organization. He is a member of the Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge, Tall Cedars, Sons of Veterans, and Knights of the Mystic Chain.




    Herschell T. Davis is a progressive and well known business man of Ebensburg, where he is engaged in the general insurance business. He was born at Ebensburg, Aug. 18, 1872, and is the son of Rowland R. and Harriet (Williams) Davis.
    Rowland R. Davis, deceased, was a native of Cambria Township, Cambria County, as was his wife. He was reared on a farm about five miles north of Ebensburg and at the time of his father's death he purchased the farm. Later he disposed of it and removed to Ebensburg, where he engaged in the mercantile business for some years. He also became interested in the fire insurance business. Mr. Davis died in November, 1918, and his wife died in September, 1907. They had three children: Amanda E., the widow of George T. Davis, lives at Ebensburg; George A., lives at Ebensburg; and Herschell T., the subject of this sketch.
    After completing his schooling at Ebensburg, Herschell T. Davis engaged in the retail coal and dray business. After several years he because associated in the insurance business with his father and this partnership continued until the latter's death. Since that time Mr. Davis has been associated with Rowland G. Davis, son of Amanda Davis. They purchased the business of T. W. Dick & Son Insurance Agency, and combined the two under the firm name of Davis & Davis.
