always been active members of the Catholic Church. Mr. Luther was known and admired for his genial disposition and keen sense of humor. His friendly spirit won the hearts of all who came in contact with him, either in a business or social way, and he was loved in the community.




    David Lewis Owens, steward of the Cambria County Home at Ebensburg, is a substantial and highly esteemed citizen of Cambria County. He was born in Cambria Township, June 13, 1860, and is the son of David and Mary (Lewis) Owens.
    Both David Owens and his wife were born in Wales. He came here with his parents in 1828, and his wife came with her family when she was three years of age. Her father, Rev. David T. Lewis, was the first Welsh Presbyterian minister in Ebensburg. Mr. Owens was a farmer. He died in 1890 and is buried in Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg. His widow is 92 years of age and resides in Ebensburg. Mr. and Mrs. Owens had the following children: Jonathan, lives at Ebensburg; Margaret, married John Renner, lives at Connorsville, Pa.; David Lewis, the subject of this sketch; William Addison, who has served as custodian of the Court House for 28 years, Ebensburg; Jennie, married Price Davis, lives at Johnstown; Harriet, married Edward Jones, lives at Johnstown; and Robert H. lives at Johnstown.
    David Lewis Ownes spent his boyhood on his father's farm, and remained at home until he was 25 years of age. He was educated in the district schools, and after his marriage was associated with his father-in-law, William Knorr, in the tanning business. After 17 years he returned to farming, which he successfully followed until 1915. At that time he was appointed steward of the Cambria County Home, which office he has since filled.
    On Oct. 8, 1885, Mr. Owens was united in marriage with Miss Minnie Knorr, of Ebensburg, Pa., the daughter of William and Catherine (Grau) Knorr, both deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Knorr were the parents of three children: Mrs. Owens; Charles, who is a farmer in Cambria Township; Katherine, who died when two years of age. Mr. Knorr died Nov. 17, 1914, and his wife died March 29, 1914. To Mr. and Mrs. Owens seven children have been born, as follows: (1) Edith Louise, born July 26, 1886, married Wallace Hughes, son of Isaac and Tillie Hughes, and they have two children, Helen Louise, born Oct. 19, 1911, and Carl Owens, born
