    Patrick M. Kinney, who is successfully engaged in the insurance and real estate business at Nanty Glo, is a substantial citizen of Cambria County. He was born at Powell, Center County, Pa., July 7, 1867, and is a son of Charles and Margaret (Boyle) Kinney.
    Charles Kinney, deceased, was a native of Ireland, as was his wife. After their marriage in this country they settled at Tamaqua, pa., and later removed to Powell, where Mr. Kinney engaged in farming. He then entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad, and after several years was employed in the building of the Gallitzin tunnel. While engaged in this work he was seriously injured. He then purchased and operated the Susquehanna Hotel at Hastings, pa. Mr. Kinney died in 1897, and his wife died in 1895. He was a Democrat and a member of the Catholic Church. To Mr. and Mrs. Kinney were born the following children: Mary, lives at Spangler; John, died in 1877; Margaret, lives at Houtzdale, Pa.; Bridget, lives at Brooklyn, N.Y.; Barney, deceased; Thomas, lives at Twin Rocks, Pa.; Charles, deceased; P. M., the subject of this sketch; and Etta, married E. E. Goss, lives at Twin Rocks, Pa.
    P. M. Kinney spent his boyhood at Houtzdale and began life as a miner. He later purchased an interest in the livery business of A. B. Clark at Hastings, Pa., which he successfully conducted until 1910, at which time he removed to South Greensburg. He then purchased and operated the new Colonial Hotel at that place until 1918l, when he removed to Twin Rocks and organized the Mountain Quality Coal Company, of which he was president. This business was later sold to the Blacklick Collieries. In 1924 Mr. Kinney established his insurance business at Nanty Glo, where he represents the Queen Insurance Company of America, the Newark Fire Insurance Company of Newark, N. J.; the American Alliance of New York, and the Aetna Insurance Company of New York. He is also extensively engaged in the real estate business.
    In January, 1903, Mr. Kinney was united in marriage with Miss Martha Henry, the daughter of Daniel Henry, deceased. He was killed in a mine shaft at Portage, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Kinney have four children:
