in 1922-23. He established his practice at Cresson. Dr. Bernstein also has an office at Gallitzin, Pa., and divides his time between the two places. C. J. Hogue is one of Cresson's pioneer business men and substantial citizens. He was born at Carrolltown, in Cambria County, Dec. 11, 1871, and is the son of John and Catherine (Flick) Hogue. John Hogue, deceased, was a native of Cambria county, his parents having come to this country from Germany many years ago. He was a farmer and land owner of Carl Township, where he spent his entire life. He died in 1916 and his wife, also a native of Carrolltown, died in 1921. Mr. and Mrs. Hogue were the parents of the following children: Harry, a farmer, lives in Cambria County; Cletus, lives at Barnesboro, Pa.; C.J., is the subject of this sketch; Ambrose, lives at Blairsville, Pa.; John E., lives at Aspinwall, Pa.; and Gilbert, lives at Cresson. C. J. Hogue spent his boyhood on his father's farm and received his education in the schools of Carrolltown. At the age of 16 years he learned the tinner's trade and in April 1906, established his present business at Cresson, where he had been employed as a tinner for many years. His hardware and tin shop has enjoyed a steady growth and is among the reliable business places in the city. On June 26, 1883, Mr. Hogue was united in marriage with Miss Anna Jane Williams of Carrolltown, Pa. They have seven children, as follows: Raymond, a graduate of St. Francis College, lives at Cresson, is a World War Veteran, married Miss McCann, of Cresson; Kenneth, died at the age of 13 years; Pauline, died at the age of 11 years; Helen, Grace, Andrew and Mary Ellen, all students. Mr. Hogue is a Democrat, a member of the Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He is a director of the Farmers Bank of Cresson |
