employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad in the company's offices at Altoona. He served as a stenographer and clerk there and at Cresson and in 1920 was promoted to his present position as division accountant. Michael J. Bacha, mortician, is among the prominent and highly esteemed citizens of Barnesboro, where he has been a resident for almost 35 years. He is a native of Czecho Slovakia, born Sept. 26, 1880. At the age of 11 years Mr. Bacha emigrated to America and settled at Ehrenfeld, PA., where he spent several years in the coal mines. In about 1900 he moved to Barnesboro and became associated in business with C. A. Buck, funeral director. In 1910 he entered the H. S. Echkels College of Embalming, and was later identified with J. E. Stevens, of Carrolltown, PA., and McMillen & Killen's Company. In July 1917, Mr. Bacha established a funeral home in Barnesboro and two years later built his modern establishment on Philadelphia Avenue. He has one of the finest funeral homes in the section of the state and is among the reliable business men of the community. On Sept. 10, 1900, Mr. Bacha was united in marriage with Miss Mary Sediak, of Barnesboro, the daughter of George J. and Elizabeth Sediak. The former is deceased and the latter lives at Barnesboro. To Mr. and Mrs. Bacha the following children were born: George, Mary, Thomas and Edward, all deceased; Michael, a graduate of St. Patrick's College, at Spangles, Pa., and also was graduated from the Eckles College of Embalming in 1924, received his state license the same year, is associated in business with his father; Helen, Francis, and Regina, all students. Mr. Bacha is a member of the Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis Club of Barnesboro and a member of the Funeral Directors Association of Pennsylvania. He is a Democrat. |
