the World War, serving overseas, married Vinetta Vrynes, lives in Barnesboro, where he is weighmaster for the maderia coal mine; Arthur, married Miss Sheets, lives in Spangler, where he is engaged in mining; Lillian, married William Demi, lives in Spangler; Alfred, a mine truck driver, lives at home; Ronald, a laborer, at home; Ella and Evelyn, at home; Frederick, who served in the regular army with the Seventeenth Regiment of the U. S. Cavalry, was stationed at Arizona for 2 ½ years and the balance of his term at Honolulu, married Marie Kline, lives in Spangler, where he is engaged in mining.
    Mr. Morley is a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, the Knights of Pythias and Royal Order of Moose. Mr. Morley served as secretary of the Barnesboro Council when the pay was $25 a year for serving on same. He has been secretary of the fire company for two years, and of the Business Men's Association for five years, and has proved himself a thoroughly competent official. Politically he is a Republican.




    J. Clifford Eves, the popular manager of Hoffman's Ice Cream Company, Barnesboro is a native of Pennsylvania. He was born in Stormstown, Center County, July 1, 1888, the son of J. P. and Ellen (Biddle) Eves, both living at Stormstown.
    J. Clifford Eves was reared and educated in Stormstown and at the age of 16 learned the baker's trade, which he followed for five years, first at patton, then at State College, and later at Barnesboro Bakery. He learned the ice cream business with the Hoffman Ice Cream Company and since 1916 has been manager. He is also a stockholder in the company. The officers of the company are: W. E. Hoffman, president, lives at Tyrone; L. G. Runk, vice president, lives at Altoona; M. D. Hoffman, secretary and treasurer, also manager of the plant, Altoona; and J. Clifford Eves, manager, Barnesboro. The company also operates branches at Altoona, Tyrone and one at Pennsylvania Furnace, Mifflin, and covers territory as far east as Harrisburg, and west as far as Blairsville, south as far as Bedford, and north as far as Punxutawney. The First Hoffman plant was organized in 1891 at Tyrone by W. E. Hoffman. The Barnesboro plant has 13 regular employees and has delivery to all the surrounding towns within a radius of 35 miles.
