identified with the Barnesboro Star as editor. The following year he entered the Barnesboro postoffice with James E. Johnson as assistant postmaster and served in that capacity until Nov. 11, 1921, when he retired. He lives at Barnesboro.
    On Dec. 15, 1883, Mr. Spencer was united in marriage with Miss Mary E. McCartney, of Mountaindale, Pa., the daughter of James and Mary (Gallagher) McCartney, both deceased. Mrs. Spencer died Aug. 27, 1901, and is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow, Pa. To Mr. and Mrs. Spencer the following children were born: Emott Palmer, deceased; Mabel, married J. W. Askew, lives at Colver, Pa.; Guy Foster, married Nina Hommer, lives at Mapleton Depot.
    In politics Mr. Spencer has always been identified with the Republican party and in 1925 he was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from the Second District of Cambria County. He holds membership in the Methodist Episcopal Church and for 45 years has served as Sunday school superintendent. Mr. Spencer is an excellent citizen of the community and is popular amoung a wide acquaintance.




    Richard Scollon, a progressive and enterprising business man of Barnesboro, who conducts Scollon's Department Store, is a native of Scotland. He was born near Glasgow, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Rinn) Scollon.
    Thomas Scollon and his wife were born in the north of Ireland, but went to Schotland, where Mr. Scollon was engaged in mining. They later came to the United States and settled in Philipsburg, Pa., where Mr. Scollon died at the age of 63 years. His widow died in 1914, aged 84 years. They were devout members of the Presbyterian Church. They were the parents of 12 children, six of whom are now living, as follow: Mrs. Annie McLean, connected with the Scollon stores, Barnesboro; Thomas, resides in Barnesboro; Mrs. Mary Wallace, Barnesboro; Margaret, connected with the Scollon stores; James, resides in Barnesboro; and Richard, the subject of this sketch.
    Richard Scollon received his education in Scotland and at the age of 17 years came to this country with his parents. They located in Philipsburg, Pa. Richard Scollon began work in the mines at Philpsburg, serving in various capacities, and for a time worked in Lilly and Broadtop. In 1893
