Politically Mr. McCardell is a Republican and he has served as a member of the City Council for several years. He holds membership in the Baptist Church, of which he is deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He and his family have a wide acquaintance in the county. Dr. C. L. McCoy, of Hastings, who ranks among the capable physicians and surgeons of Cambria County, is a veteran of the World War. He was born at Utahville, Clearfield County, Pa., Jan. 5, 1888, the son of Howard and Harriet (Speice) McCoy. Howard McCoy is a prominent citizen of Utahville, where he has spent his entire life. He was born Aug. 6, 1855, and in early life engaged in general farming and lumbering. For the past 20 years he has conducted a general mercantile business at Smoke Run. He is a Republican and has served as road supervisor. He was also a candidate for county commissioner. Mr. McCoy is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. His wife, also a native of Clearfield County, died Jan. 25, 1926. Mr. and Mrs. McCoy has 12 children, one of whom is deceased. Alton McCoy was drowned when 19 years of age. Dr. C. L. McCoy attended the district school and Lock Haven Normal School, after which he engaged in teaching for two years at Burnside and Wilmore, Pa. In 1915 he received his degree as Doctor of Medicine from Jefferson Medical College, and the following year became associated in practice with Doctor Rice at Hastings. In August, 1917, he volunteered for service in the World War and was sent to Pittsburgh, Pa., where he specialized in X-ray work. He was then sent to Army Medical School in March, 1918, and was graduated there June 30, 1918, with rank of first lieutenant, Regular Army Medical Corps. He was later transferred to Camp Pike, Little Rock, Ark.; Raritan Arsenal, New Brunswick, N. J.; Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D. C., and Camp Eustis, W. Va. After resigning from Regular Army, Doctor McCoy returned to Hastings, and on Oct. 1, 1919, took over the practice of Doctor Rice. Doctor McCoy was married to Miss Edna Kerslin of Fredericktown, Pa. Before her marriage Mrs. McCoy was a nurse in the West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh. Two children have been born to Doctor and Mrs. McCoy; Betty Louise, born March 11, 1919; and Major C., born May 21, 1922. Doctor McCoy is a Republican, a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Masonic Lodge, Nu Sigma Nu and Alpha Omega Alpha fraternities. He is an excellent citizen and a progressive man in his profession. |
