    Politically Mr. Schaeffer is a Republican. He holds membership in the Presbyterian Church and Masonic and Elks lodges. He is a member of the Shrine of Altoona and the Consistory of Williamsport. He and his family are highly esteemed in the community.




    E. Bruce McCardell, agent for the Pennsylvania Railroad at Barnesboro, is a substantial citizen of Cambria County. He was born on a farm near New Washington, Pa., March 7, 1878, and is the son of David A. and Mary P. (Neff) McCardell.
     David A. McCardell, deceased, was a veteran of the Civil war. He was born in Clearfield County and in early life was a farmer. He later served as postmaster of Westover for almost 15 years and died while holding that office, Dec. 3, 1919. His widow, a native of Burnside Township, Clearfield County, resides at Westover. Mr. McCardell was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Grand Army of the Republic. He has held several public offices and was well known in the community. To Mr. and Mrs. McCardell the following children were born: Emma, married V.. K. Roland, lives at Westover, Pa.; Sarah, married George F. Westover, lives at Sebring, Fla.; E. B., the subject of this sketch; James B., lives at Cresson, where he is engaged in the real estate business; and W. D., a train dispatcher, lives at Barnesboro.
     E. B. McCardell spent his boyhood at Burnside and Westover and attended Lockhaven Normal School. He taught school for one year, after which he entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad as a telegrapher on the Cresson Division. He later made station agent at Westover, and in 1918 was transferred to Barnesboro as passenger and freight agent.
     On Jan. 17, 1900, Mr. McCardell was united in marriage with Miss Matilda C. Moore, of Westover, the daughter of Charles C. and Emma (McHenry) Moore. The former is deceased and the latter lives at Westover. To Mr. and Mrs. McCardell four children were born: Emma Belle, was graduated from Westover High School, and in 1920 from Indiana Normal School, and in 1925 from the Practical Bible Training School at Bible School park, N. Y., and is now the wife of Rev. Walter R. Feser, and residing at Bible School Park, N. Y., where she is engaged in missionary work; Hazel Nell, died in infancy; Guy Moore, a graduate of Barnesboro High School, lives at home; and Wilber Ralph, who graduated from Barnesboro High School, class of 1926.
