866 HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY

    On Oct. 1, 1905, Mr. Ratchford was united in marriage with Miss Nora May Bowers, the daughter of Adam and Angeline Bowers. Mr. Bowers, deceased, was a Civil war veteran. He died in 1919 and his widow lives at Barnesboro. To Mr. and Mrs. Ratchford three children have been born: Harry, Eleanor, and Thomas.




    H. B. Plumer is an enterprising and successful business man of Barnesboro, where he is a well known heating and plumbing contractor. He was born in Indiana County, Pa., Feb. 21, 1882, and is the son of William and Laura G. (Tuck) Plumer.
     William Plumer, deceased, was a veteran of the Civil war. He was born in Maine in 1842 and at an early age settled in Cambria County, where he engaged in general farming and lumbering. He owned 120 acres of land, which is still owned by the Plumer family. Mr. Plumer served throughout the Civil war with Company A, Thirteenth Regulars, Maine Infantry. He died in 1916. Mr. Plumer was a member of the Disciple Church and the Grand Army of the Republic. His wife was born in Maine in 1852 and died Jan. 24, 1916. To Mr. and Mrs. Plumer the following children were born: Annette, married Harry E. Patterson, lives at Carrolltown, Pa., and they have a daughter, Gladys, born Oct. 19, 1903, who teaches school, and twin sons, Herbert and Harley, both students, and a daughter, Laura Kathryn; (2) H. B., the subject of this sketch; and Gwen M., born Aug. 1, 1892, married George Adam Lieb, lives at Nicktown, Pa.
     H. B. Plumer attended the schools of Homer City, Pa., and spent his boyhood there. He learned the electrical business at an early age and was connected with the Pennsylvania Railroad for some time. He later became interested in the plumbing and heating business and since 1911 has engaged in that work at Barnesboro, where he has been a resident since 1902. Mr. Plumer has a well equipped shop and an extensive business.
     On Nov. 24, 1913, Mr. Plumer was united in marriage with Miss Ruth Ranck, of Barnesboro, born Feb. 2, 1893, at West Milton, Union County, Pa., the daughter of C. H. and Minerva (Eyer) Ranck. They have two children: Ruth Louise, born July 6, 1918, died May 4, 1919; and Joyce, born April 19, 1925.
