On Oct. 30, 1889, Mr. Strittmatter was united in marriage with Miss Sophia Huber, of Carl Township, the daughter of John Hl. And Mary Huber. Mr. Huber resides with the Strittmatter family. His wife is deceased. The following children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Strittmatter: Dennis, deceased, was the husband of Elizabeth Kline; Amandus J., a member of the firm, married Mary Bearer; Orner, a priest, in religion Dennis, of the Order of St. Benedict, is located at Pittsburgh; Clair, in religion Father Frederick, O. S. B., St. Vincent's College; Otto T., a member of the firm, married Helen Bearer; Mary and Pauline, at home; and twins, who died in infancy. Hobart M. Lord is a veteran of the World war and a well known young business man of Hastings, where he is serving as postmaster. He was born here March 29, 1897, and is a son of John A. and Elizabeth (Patterson) Lord. John A. Lord is prominent throughout Cambria County, where he is identified with the Lord Construction Company as a road builder. He was born in Clearfield County, Dec. 30, 1871, the son of William and Mariah (Stewart) Lord, natives of Pennsylvania. John A. Lord grew up in Clearfield County and learned the stonemason's trade, at which he was employed until 1915, when he organized the Lord Construction Company. To Mr. and Mrs. Lord four children were born: Robert Arthur, lives at Swissvale, Pa.; Ruth E., at home; Hobart M., the subject of this sketch; and Earl, at home. Hobart M. Lord attended the public schools of Hastings and shortly after his graduation from Hastings High School he enlisted in the Twenty-eighth Division, One Hundred Tenth Infantry. He participated in the battle of Chateau-Thierry, Marne-Aisne and Argonne, and was wounded and gassed in action. Mr. Lord was discharged in Philadelphia in May, 1919, and returned to Hastings, where he was associated in business with his father until his appointment as postmaster, Feb. 20, 1925. |
