In April, 1877, Mr. Strollo was united in marriage with Miss Beatrice Cecere. To them were born five children: Mary, married Frank Finello, lives at Spangler; Adam, served throughout the World war with the Three Hundred Nineteenth Infantry, Eightieth Division, is manager of M. Strollo & Sons; Anthony A., also a World war veteran, having served with Company F, Fifty-sixth Pioneer Infantry; Eminia and Joseph, died in infancy. P. A. Strittmatter is a substantial and well known citizen of Hastings, where he is engaged in the lumber business. He was born at Carrolltown, Sept. 14, 1860, and is a son of Peter and Maria (Long) Strittmatter. Peter Strittmatter, son of Andrew and Mary (Myers) Strittmatter, was born in 1825 near Carrolltown, natives of Germany, who settled in this country in 1818. Peter Strittmatter learned the trade of carpenter and worked as a contractor and builder practically his entire life. He also owned a farm in Carl Township, Cambria County. He died in 1913 and is buried in Carrolltown Cemetery. He was a member of the Catholic Church. His widow, a native of Cambria County, resides with her son Peter. Mr. and Mrs. Strittmatter were the parents of the following children: Mary, Joseph, and Barbara, all deceased; Catherine, married Simon Schrift, lives at Summerhill, Pa., he died in 1923; John, lives in Indiana; Aloysius T., lives at Hastings; P. A., the subject of this sketch; Helena, married Leonard Holtz; Anthony C. lives in Hastings; Elizabeth, in religion, Sister Catherine, in the Benedictine Convent, Pittsburgh; Cecelia, in religion Sister Scolastica, Benedictine Convent, Pittsburgh; Isadore, lives at Patton; Thomas P., lives in Philadelphia; Peter C., lives on the old homestead near Patton; and Anna, in religion Sister Hedwidge. P. A. Strittmatter attended the district schools of Carl Township and was associated in the building business with his father until 1888, when he came to Hastings and founded the present lumber business in partnership with his brothers, A. T. and a. C. Strittmatter. Since 1921 the business has been known as Strittmatter Brothers Company, Mr. Strittmatter's sons, Otto T. and A. J., being associated with him. They carry a complete line of builders' supplies and supply the lumber trade for a radius of 20 miles from Hastings. |
