Carrolltown. To Mr. and Mrs. Buck seven children have been born, as follows: Magdalen, in the Nurses' Training School in Pittsburgh; Florence, assistant cashier of the Hastings Bank; Louise, Anna, John, all students; Joseph, deceased; and Camille.
     Mr. Buck is a Democrat and has served as burgess of Hastings for five years and as school director for two terms. He is a member of the Catholic Church and Loyal Order of Moose. He is a public spirited citizen and holds the high regard of all who know him.
     The Hastings Bank was formerly a private banking institution and owned by Andrew Lantzy, A. W. Buck, A. B. Clark, and C. A. Sharbaugh. In October, 1918, it was reorganized with a capital of $25,000. It now has a surplus of $41,456, and resources amounting to more than $400,000. A modern fireproof building was erected in 1919 at a cost of $50,000. The present officers of the bank are: A. C. Strittmatter, president; A. B. Clark and George Clark, vice presidents; M. L. Buck, cashier; and Florence e. Buck, assistant cashier. The directors are: A. C. Strittmatter, A. B. Clark, George Clark, Andrew Lantzy, I. P. Yahner, B. A. Lantzy, P. A. Strittmatter, I. L. Binder, V. R. Kline, C. A. Sharbaugh, C. C. Adams.




    Mike Strollo is a well known merchant of Barnesboro, where he has engaged in business for the past 20 years. He was born in Italy, April 19, 1853, the son of Guiseppe and Marie (Caprio) Strollo.
     Guiseppe Strollo spent his entire life in Italy and is now deceased. He was a tinner by trade. His wife is also deceased. They had the following children: Rose, deceased; Mike, the subject of this sketch; and John, lives in Italy.
     Mike Strollo came to the United States in 1891, after having worked at his trade as shoemaker in his native land for a number of years. He lived at Carrolltown, Pa., and later at Spangler, where he followed his trade. He then removed to Ebensburg and later to Emporium. In 1906 Mr. Strollo located in Barnesboro, where he conducted a shoe business for 12 years. During the World war he suffered financial reverses owing to the absence of his two sons, who were in the army. In 1919 he established his present business and in 1922 removed to the new location on Seventeenth Street. Mr. Strollo conducts one of the most extensive fruit and grocery business in the county, his trade extending within a radius of 20 miles. His business is entirely wholesale.
