way between Loretta and Cresson. This property consists of 289 acres and the Inn, and when purchased by Mr. Harding was in a run down condition. He has made extensive improvements and it is his intention to make it a first class summer resort, with a fine swimming pool and other attractions. Thomas D. Dingwall ranks among the progressive and enterprising business men of Gallitzin, of which he ahs been a resident since 1902. He was born in Luzerne County, and is a son of John and Mary Elizabeth (Yule) Dingwall. John Dingwall was a native of Dundee, Scotland. When a young man he came to this country and settled in Luzerne County, Pa., where he worked in the mines. He lost his life in a mine accident in 1871. His widow, also a native of Scotland, died at the age of 74 years. The following children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Dingwall; Jennie, deceased, was the wife of John Floyd; John, lives at Honesdale, Pa.; Thomas D., the subject of this sketch; Harry, deceased; and Anna, married J. L. Arnold, deceased. Thomas D. Dingwall was reared and educated in Luzerne County. Since coming to Gallitzin in 1902 he has been extensively interested in the insurance and ice business. On Oct. 16, 1894, Mr. Dingwall was united in marriage with Miss Anna Bell Fredericks, of Clearfield County, the daughter of Alvin and Caroline (McCully) Fredericks. The former died in October, 1924. Mrs. Fredericks lives at Harrisburg, Pa. There were two children born to Mr. and Mrs. Fredericks: M.P., who lives at Harrisburg; and Mrs. Dingwall. To Mr. and Mrs. Dingwall have been born two sons: John M., born Jan. 25, 1896, died in infancy; and Alvin Y., born Jan. 29, 1901, lives at Reading, Pa. He is a graduate of Gallitzin High School and Pennsylvania State College and is an electrical engineer. Politically Mr. Dingwall is a Republican. He is a member of the Masonic Lodge, Consistory of Williamsport, Shrine and Jaffa Temple of Altoona, Pa. He is a director of the Citizens Deposit Bank of Gallitzin, and takes an active interest in the affairs of the community. |
