three years he was employed by George M. Cypher, in the grocery business. In 1897, in partnership with James H. Hunter, he opened a grocery store at Moxham, in the Seventh Ward. At the end of four years the connection was dissolved and Mr. Lockard engaged in business alone. In 1916 he sold the business to T. Richardson and in the same year went with the Rothert Furniture Company as a salesman. In 1917 he accepted his present position as a salesman with J. D. Rutledge & Sons.
    Mr. Lockard married Miss Myrtle Reel, the daughter of John and Lavinia (Steck) Reel, and they are the parents of three children: Helen Elizabeth, a graduate of Johnstown High School and Bucknell University, teaches Spanish in Cochran High School; Donald Reel, a graduate of Johnstown High School, is identified with the Y.M.C.A.; and Harvey C., Jr., a graduate of Johnstown High School.
    Mr. Lockard is a Republican, a member of the United Brethren Church, and Independent Order of Odd Fellows




    Dr. A. E. Fichtner, who ranks among the capable physicians and surgeons of Johnstown, with offices at 121 F Street, is a native of West Virginia. He was born at Preston, August 9, 1858, and is the son of Dr. Benjamin Abbott and Louisa Jane (Darby) Fichtner.
    Dr. Benjamin Abbott Fichtner was born near Somerset, Pa., Jan. 31, 1836, the son of Dr. Daniel and Rebecca (Ferner) Fichtner. Dr. Daniel Fichtner was well known in medical circles in Somerset County for more than fifty years and was also known throughout all that region as a faithful minister of the Evangelical Church from about 1839 until his death in 1884
    Dr. Benjamin Abbott Fichtner attended Richmond Medical College, and engaged in the practice of medicine from 1857 until his death in 1901. In 1860 he settled in Fayette County, Pa., and four years later removed to Somerfield, in Somerset County. In March, 1865, he volunteered for service in the Civil war and served as a member of the Eighty-eighth Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. In 1876 he located permanently in Confluence, in Somerset County. In politics Doctor Fichtner was a Democrat. He married Miss Louisa Jane Darby, a descendant of a prominent old family of West Virginia, and who died in 1894.
    Dr. A. E. Fichtner received his early education in the public schools and engaged in teaching for several years. He later entered the College
