906 HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY

    Dr. Merritt R. Schultz was married the second time to Miss Laura M. Campbell, of Johnstown, Pa. They have four children: Merritt Campbell, who received his Ph. G. from the University of Pittsburgh, June 13, 1923, and his A. B. degree from Ohio State University, Aug. 27, 1926; Samuel Carl, a student at Ohio State University; Dorothy Elizabeth and Ruth, students in the local schools.
    Dr. Merritt B. Schultz is identified with the Cambria County Medical Society, the Pennsylvania State Medical Association and the American Medical Association. He is a Republican, a member of the Presbyterian Church, a member of the Knights of Pythias and serves as a director of the Moxham National Bank.




    Dr. J. Swan Taylor, physician and surgeon, who is successfully engaged in the practice of his profession in Johnstown, is a member of a prominent pioneer family of Pennsylvania. He was born in West Fairfield, Fairfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pa., March 15, 1858, the son of Dr. James and Susan M. (Ogden) Taylor.
    James Taylor, great-grandfather of J. Swan Taylor, was a native of County Armagh, Ireland, where he married and shortly afterward emigrated to the United States. In religion he was of the Presbyterian faith, and became a member of Ebenezer Church of that denomination. He died in 1850. His children were: John, mentioned later; James, who died in the United States Regular Army; and a daughter, who died in infancy.
    John Taylor, eldest son and child of James Taylor, was born in Westmoreland County, Pa., where he resided until 1836. He then removed to Indiana County, Pa., where his death occurred in 1854. Politically he was a Whig. He also was a member of the Ebenezer Church. He married Ellen Miller, daughter of Samuel Miller, and had the following children: John M.; Samuel M.; Dr. James, mentioned later; David M.; Hugh M.; and William.
    Dr. James Taylor was born near Craig's Mill, Loyalhanna Township, Westmoreland County, Pa., Oct. 9, 1822. He received his education in the subscription schools of his native county and in Indiana County, after which he attended Blairsville Academy for two years. During the next two years he was actively engaged in teaching, and then began the study of medicine under the preceptorship of Dr. E. P. Emerson, of Blairsville,
