the Miners and Merchants Deposit Bank, Portage, and has extensive real estate holdings.
In 1897 Mr. Miles was married at Millport, Pa., to Miss Lenore Straw, a daughter of Wilson and Minnie (Bloom) Straw, both deceased. To Mr. and Mrs. Miles have been born four children: Hobart G., a graduate of Portage High School, Bucknell College, now a medical student at the University of Pennsylvania, Glen R., a graduate of South Fork High School and Gettysburg College, is a civil engineer in the employ of the State Highway Department; James and Dorothy, both students.
Mr. Miles is a member of the United Brethren Church and Knights of Pythias. He takes a prominent part in the civic affairs of Portage and is serving as a member of the city council.
Richard C. Pike, popular theatre owner of Portage, is a native of Pennsylvania. He was born in Clearfield County, March 23, 1886, and is the son of Richard and Eliza (Tubbs) Pike.
Richard Pike, who resides at Woodland, is a native of Houtzdale, Pa., born in 1862. He is a machinist by trade and for a number of years has operated a shop at Woodland. He is a member of the United Brethren Church and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. His wife was also born in Clearfield County. To Mr. and Mrs. Pike 11 children were born, as follows" Sarah Jane, the wife of A. B. Thompson, lives near Dean, Pa., Richard C., subject of this sketch; Thomas E., resides at Olean, N. Y., Mae, married Albert Hummel, Hyde City, Pa., Amelia, wife of Frank Shipley, lives at Clearfield, Pa.; Leah, wife of Stanley Hughes, Wilkes Barre, Pa.; the last named two are twins; William, at home; John Edward, train operator on the Pennsylvania Railroad; Agnes, married Albert Hurtline, Clearfield, Pa.; and Ruth, at home.
Richard C. Pike was reared and educated at Richland, Pa. He was bricklayer by occupation for several years, after which he entered the employ of the American Glass Company in a clerical capacity. He was then connected with the Hillman Coal & Coke Company, Pittsburgh, and since 1924 has lived at Portage, where he is owner and proprietor of the Alma Theatre, one of the fine motion picture theatres of this section.
Mr. Pike is a member of the Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge, Philipsburg, and Loyal Order of Moose, Portage. He is unmarried.
