the First Church of Christ Scientist, Johnstown, and takes an active interest in the work of the Womens Christian Temperance Union. She is a Republican and is identified with the Twentieth Century Club of Portage. She is a trustee of the Mothers Assistant Fund of Cambira County. W. Blaine Goughnour, well know burgess of Conemaugh, is a member of one of the early pioneer families of Cambria County. He was born at Conemaugh, Jan. 18, 1883, and is the sons of David D. and Mary A. (Allison) Goughnour. David D. Goughnour, deceased, was a Civil war veteran. He was born in Taylor Township, Cambria County, and was a pioneer in the employ of the Cambria Steel Company in Johnstown. He became at extensive land owner and the old Goughnour homestead was located in the present Woodvale Heights. Mr. Goughnour served during the Civil war with Company A, One Hundred Thirty-third Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and was wounded during the battle of Chancellorsville and Antietam. He died July 11, 1911, and his wife died Oct. 6, 1898. He was a Republican, a member of the Brethren Church, and the Grand Army of the Republic. To Mr. and Mrs. Goughnour 11 children were born, as follows: George G., lives in Johnstown; Minnie A., the widow of Paul Jones, lives at Conemaugh; Charles W., lives in Johnstown; Governor K., lives in California; Franklin P., lives in Pittsburgh; Anna M., married S. E. Rorabaugh, lives in Conemaugh; Henry C., lives in Conemaugh; John H., twin brother of Henry C., deceased Sadie, died in infancy; Milton P., died in 1902; and W. Blaine, th subject of this sketch. W. Blaine Goughnour received his education in the schools of Conemaugh and when a young man entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad as a brakeman. He then worked as a conductor of the railroad for ten years, and in September, 1911, engaged in the restaurant business in Conemaugh. In November, 1925, Mr. Goughnour was elected burgess of the city, and has served in that capacity since January, 1926. Previous to that time he had served as a member of the City Council for eight years. On Jan. 19, 1905, Mr. Goughnour was united I marriage with Miss Anna Marie Just, who was born in Johnstown, Dec. 18, 1883. In 1916 Mr. and Mrs. Goughnour adopted a child, John Oliver, born May 11, 1911. He is now attending public schools in Johnstown. |
