1887; William, died in 1892; Elizabeth, died in 1887; and Daniel, died in November, 1924.
    Caron L. Leahey attended the schools of Lilly and when a boy of 11 years entered his father's employ in the coke works. In 1864 he worked in the mines as a mule driver and the following year as mine boss. He was promoted numerous times until 1872, when he was made superintendent. Two years later he became owner of the Lilly mines and various other mines in this district, which he operated successfully until his retirement in 1899. He also sold mining supplies from 1870 until 1894.
    Mr. Leahey married Miss Jennie Mathews, of Portage. She died in 1909 and is buried in Lilly Cemetery. To Mr. and Mrs. Leahey four children were born: Frances P., Edith Virginia, James H., and Hackett T. All are deceased except James H.
    Mr. Leahey has always been a Democrat and is a member of the Jefferson Democratic Club of Philadelphia. He was served as justice of the peace for 21 years and is well esteemed throughout Cambria County.




    George Rainey, who is successfully engaged in the lumber business, is among the enterprising business men of Lilly. He was born here, Dec. 22, 1871, and is the son of Joseph and Mary Jane (Brown) Rainey.
    Joseph Rainey, deceased, was a prominent citizen of Cambria County and a veteran of the Civil War. He was born in a farm in Washington Township, the son of John Rainey, who was born in Clearfield county, Pa., and settled in Cambria County about 1837. He was a farmer and also engaged in railroad building on the old Portage road. Joseph, his son, was a carpenter and also engaged in the contracting and building business, establishing the present Rainey Lumber Company at Lilly. He also owned a general store here. Mr. Rainey died in 1912. He was active in the affairs of Lilly and served as justice of the peace, school director, and a member of the council. During the Civil War he served with Company A, 55th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was a life long member of the Catholic Church. His wife, Mary Jane Brown, was born near Lilly and died in 1894 at the age of 54 years. To Mr. and Mrs. Rainey nine children were born, four of whom are deceased: Anna, Lavina, Mary and Harry.
    George Rainey spent his boyhood at Lilly and received his education in the public schools. At an early age he learned the carpenter trade,
