until 1919. He has since engaged in the dry goods business. In 1923 Mr. Carman was elected vice president of the First National Bank and in September, 1925, was elected president.
On Dec. 24, 1889, Mr. Carman was united in marriage with Miss Fannie L. Wood, who was born in Sullivan County, N. Y., June 3, 1870, the daughter of Andrew and Mary A. Wood, both deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Carman have a daughter, Willa E., born Oct. 22, 1890. She is the wife of John D. Lonergan, treasurer and secretary of the Pennsylvania Trust Company, Johnstown. He is also a director of the National Bank of Lilly and is a director of the State Bank of Gallitzin. Mr. and Mrs. Lonergan have a daughter, Lucille Kathryn, born April 17, 1917. Mrs. Lonergan is a graduate of the Ridgway High School, and also a graduate of the School of Designing for Women in Philadelphia. She is a capable artist and before her marriage conducted an art studio in Johnstown.
Mr. Carman is a Republican, a member of the Episcopal Church and F. and a. M. No. 379, Ridgeway. He is held in high regard throughout the community, and is an excellent citizen.
The officers of the First National Bank of Lilly are: I. E. Carman, president; James McCann, vice president; Victor L. Smith, cashier; and Joseph D. Bender, assistant cashier.
Caron L. Leahey, retired, is one of the pioneer citizens of Lilly, where he has spent practically his entire life. He was born in Ireland, April 19, 1848, and is the son of John and Elizabeth (Connoly) Leahey.
In 1850 John Leahey brought his family to this country from Ireland and settled in Cambria County, where he engaged in railroad construction work between Cresson and Gallitzin until 1854, at which time he became interested in coke burning. He followed this work successfully for the next 23 years and erected coke pits, which were used in the present open hearth process. Mr. Leahey died July 4, 1905, at the age of 81 years and his wife died Oct. 5, 1905, at the age of 84 years. To Mr. and Mrs. Leahey the following children were born: Mary, a nun, lives in Pittsburgh; Caron L., the subject of this sketch; John died in February, 1921, was prominent in the mining interests of Lilly as owner of the Bear Rock Mining Company; Patrick, lives at Lilly; Thomas, lives at Lilly, where is he prominent in mine holdings; Catherine, died at the age of 57 years; James, died in
