To Simon J. and Catherine (Burns) Conrad the following children were born: Mary Agnes, died at the age of 11 years; James, lives at Cresson; Edward, lives at Conemaugh; Margaret, married M. Goodman, lives at Altoona, Pa.; Francis Albert, lives at Altoona, Pa.; Joseph, deceased; Paul, lives at Altoona, Pa.; Susan Ann, married Charles McGuire, lives at Cresson; Phillip, deceased; and Thomas H., the subject of this sketch. Andrew Evans is a progressive and enterprising young business man of Lilly, where he is identified with the Evans Service Station. He was born here, Oct. 26, 1902, and is the sone of Joseph and Catherine (Cheslow) Evans. Joseph Evans is a native of Poland. When 23 years of age he emigrated to this country and settled at Lilly, where he worked in the mines. He late worked in the Shoemaker mines. Mr. Evans resides at Lilly. He is a member of the Catholic Church and is a Democrat. His wife is also a native of Poland. Mr. and Mrs. Evans have the following children: Andrew, the subject of this sketch; Anna, lives at home; Mary, died at the age of five years; Joseph Francis, Stanley and Catherine, all at home. Andrew Evans received his education in the public schools of Lilly and attended the Coyne Electrical School. He was employed by the Vesta Storage Battery Corporation and later by the Universal Battery Company and Reynolds Electric Company, all of Chicago. Since 1924 he has oper- |
