HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY 953

    Charles Leventry was a small boy when his parents moved to Johnstown. He was educated in the public schools and at the age of 21 years began his business career as proprietor of a livery. Later he was a grocer and still later operated a dairy. About 1900 he purchased 100 acres of land in Stony Creek township, near Johnstown, and opened a coal mine. In 1904 the Highland Coal Company was incorporated for the purpose of operating mines on this land. Mr. Leventry also deals extensively in real estate, buys with excellent judgment, and knows when to sell. He was one of the incorporators of the Suburban Realty Company of Johnstown. He operates the Sam Run Coal Mine and is president of the Elton Lumber Company, which was organized May 21, 1925. Mr. Leventry lived on his farm in Stony Creek Township until 1906, when he moved to Johnstown. In 1919 he erected his fine residence near Geistown, where he now resides.
    On May 1, 1890, Mr. Leventry married Miss Julia VonLunen, the daughter of Lewis VonLunen of Johnstown. Their children were: Ruth, Bruce, and Wilbert. Mrs. Leventry died March 1, 1918. On Oct. 4, 1920, Mr. Leventry was married to Miss Sarah Morgart, the daughter of William and Amelia Morgart of Johnstown. They have two sons, Robert M. and Donald.
    For many years Mr. Leventry has been an active figure in Cambria County politics, and is regarded as one of the most loyal Republican leaders in this part of the state. For six years he served as county commissioner, besides which he has at various times filled minor offices. He is at present school director of Richland Township, and it was largely through his efforts that Richland township High School was erected in Geistown in 1923 at a cost of $80,000. Mr. Leventry is a member of the Grove Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church and is affiliated with the Masonic Lodge and Modern Woodmen of America.




    Thomas Joseph Moyer, a successful and reliable merchant of Lilly, where is engaged in the meat business, is a native of that place. He was born in March, 1874, and is the son of Joseph and Barbara (Robine) Moyer.
    Joseph Moyer was a native of Washington Township, Cambria County, and his wife was born in Germany. He was a blacksmith by trade and for more than 30 years operated a shop at Lilly. He later engaged in the meat business for several years and died in 1900. His widow died in August,
