HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY 965

    On June 3, 1897, Mr. Custer was married to Miss Grace Davis, a daughter of Dr. M. H. and Catherine (Allison) Davis. He was a prominent physician of Conemaugh and is now deceased. He is buried in Grand View Cemetery, and his wife is buried in Headricks Cemetery. To Mr. and Mrs. Custer seven children have been born: Merton D., associated in business with his father, was a member of the Student Army Training Corps. He married Helen Simons of Conemaugh, and they have one child, Merton, Jr.; June, resides at home; Joy, married Jack North, a druggist, resides in Warren, Pa.; Rhuelba, a teacher in the commercial department of the Conemaugh High School; Wade, deceased; Ross a student; and Charles, a student.
    Politically Mr. Custer is a Republican. He is a member of the Methodist Church, and is identified with the I.O.O.F. No 999, Corona Lodge, past noble grand, encampment Flood City, No. 274, Canton No. 5, Woodmen of the World, Vestal Camp No. 33, of which he has been a member for 25 years and received a silver medal; Junior Order of the United American Mechanics, Conemaugh Council 137; Master Painters and Decorators of America, Pennsylvania Department, of which latter association he is the president in Johnstown; the N.P.A. Legion, and the American Protective Association. Mr. Custer and his family are well and favorably known in their community and have many friends.




    Frank B. Barnhart, an attorney of Johnstown, with offices in the Swank Building, is recognized as one of the representative members of the bar of Cambria County. He was born Sept. 6, 1873, in this city, and is a son of Henry and Amanda (Bowman) Barnhart.
    Henry Barnhart and his wife were natives of Somerset County, Pa., where he was a farmer and was largely interested in lumber and timber lands in the early days.
    Frank P. Barnhart attended the public schools of Roxbury, upper Yoder Township schools and the Indiana State Normal, from which he was graduated in 1895. He taught school for two years, and was principal of the Seventh Ward School and the Somerset Street schools of Johnstown. In 1896 he entered Princeton University, being graduated from this university in 1902, after which he entered the Law School of Dickinson College and received his degree in 1905. From 1907 until 1911 Mr. Barnhart was a member of the Pennsylvania State Legislature.
