HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY 981

Kemerer. Victoria, August, 1832-1905, was the wife of Frederick Pichel, Nicktown, Pa.; Mark, married Mary Ann Nickel; Matthias, Jan. 4, 1821, died at Carrolltown, Nov. 29, 1885. His wife was Tersia Herzog, 1828, a daughter of Dominic Herzog. George, 1819, came also to Pennsylvania. Emma, 1829, and John, both deceased. After Augustine Fehrenbach came to Carrolltown his name was Anglicized to Farabaugh. Before coming he married Mary Ann Kentz, born Feb. 7, 1805, died Nov. 20, 1766. Their children were: Erhart, Jan. 28, 1828, married Anna Eckenrode, in 1853; Leonard, Nov. 22, 1830, died Feb. 11, 1897, married Mary Ann Becker, born in 1836; Edward, born on the sea coming to America, July 29, 1833, died April 23, 1907. His wife was Catherine Hartman; Mary Helen, Sept. 3, 1836, died April 13, 1863, the wife of William Cole; Augustine, born Sept. 18, 1838; Anthony Joseph, born May 30, 1840; and Catherine, born Nov. 24, 1842, is the wife of John Wirtner.
    Rev. Modestus Wirtner attended St. Benedict's parochial school and in September, 1874, entered St. Vincent's College. He pursued his theological studies at St. Vincent's Seminary, Beatty, Pa., and was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Phelan on July 8, 1886. He was appointed as assistant at St. Mary's Church, St. Mary's Pa, and from Dec. 15, 1887, until Feb. 15, 1888, was pastor at Louisville, Colo. From there he went into the Rocky Mountains and took charge of Summit County, Colo. In 1889 he built a small church at Kokomo. In July, 1890, he took charge of Park County, and in 1891 had under his supervision both Summit and Park counties. From June until November, 1892, he was assistant at St. Mary's Church, Pueblo, Colo. From there he went to Louisville, Colo., as pastor, and there enlarged the church. In 1895 he was appointed pastor of Boulder, Colo. In 1889, Reverend Wirtner returned to Pennsylvania, and September 15th was appointed assistant at St. Boniface Church, Pittsburgh. In May, 1900, he became the assistant at Greensburg, Pa., In December, 1901, he was appointed pastor of St. Boniface Church at Penn, Pa. There he built the present church in 1907. In November, 1901, he took charge of St. George's Church, Patton, and of the church at St. Lawrence, Pa. In 1910 he was made assistant at Carrolltown, his native town. In August of the same year he was appointed pastor of St. Nicholas Church, Nicktown, Pa., where he built the present church. Oct. 1, 1916, he was in charge of Monte Cassino, Covington, Ky., and in November, 1919 became chaplain to the Little Sister of the Poor, Pittsburgh. On Feb. 28, 1920, he was appointed pastor of St. Boniface, where he is at present.
