982 HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY

While in Colorado Reverend Wirtner took up the study of Hemiptera, and during his pastorate, during his spare moments, made a large collection of Hemiptera in the western part of the state and published a preliminary list of Western Pennsylvania Hemiptera. Mr. E. P. VanDuzee, the leading Hemipterist in the United States, pronounced it the best local list so far published. He named and described the first Hemipter in the United States, which has hair on the membrane of the wings.
On Dec. 28, 1906, Reverend Wirtner was listed as a charger member of the entomological Society of America, and in 1907 became a life member of that society.
In June 1926, he published the first part of the History of the Benedictine Fathers of Cambria County, Pa.
