    Their candies are shipped all of the United States, and are sold to the following syndicate stores: F. W. Woolworth Company, W. T. Grant Company, and J. G. McCrory Stores Corporation.
    The members of the firm are: C. E. Brunner, president and general manager; D. W. Long, treasurer; and E. E. Olson, secretary.

    James A. McClain. Ranking high among the successful and prominent business men of Cambria County is James A. McClain, president of the First National Bank of Spangler and president of the First National Bank of Bakerton, Pa. He was born at Bellefonte, Pa., Sept. 30, 1849, and is the son of Bernard and Nora (Brew) McClain.
    Bernard McClain, son of Stephen and Mary (Phlesman) McClain, was born in Blair County, Pa., in 1820, and died at State College, Pa., in 1858. He married Nora Brew, daughter of Thaddeus and Mary Brew of Bellefonte, Pa. Their children were: Austin M., died Jan. 7, 1906; Thomas, deceased; Frank, deceased; James A., the subject of this sketch; Bernard; Matilda, deceased; Ellen J.; and Nora, died in 1889, was a Sister of Charity at Mount St. Vincent.
    James A. McClain's education was acquired in the public schools of Bellefonte. At the age of nine years, at the time of his father's death, he was obliged to take up the battle of life for himself, and his success is due to an indomitable will and a high conception of right and justice, which has always marked his character. He entered the service of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company as telegraph operator and agent at Julian Furnace in 1871, remained there three years, and was then transferred to Milesburg, which position he retained until 1882, when he was advanced to the position of agent and dispatcher at Snowshoe, but remained there but a short time. In the autumn of that year he was elected by a large majority to the office of register of wills and clerk of the Orphans' Court of Centre
