College, Loretto, and was appointed prior and president of that institution in June, 1926. D. Berwyn Evans is a prominent citizen of Johnstown, where he conducts a studio for voice culture. He was born at Carrog, North Wales, Great Britain, March 21, 1882, and is a son of John Richard Evans and Catherine (Davies) Evans. Both Mr. and Mrs. John Richard Evans are deceased and are buried in Wales, where they spent their entire lives. He died Dec. 18, 1920, and she died Oct. 16, 1925. D. Berwyn Evans attended the Carrog National School, and Blaeman Ffestiniog Board School, and the Corwen British School, all of North Wales. His first efforts along musical lines consisted in the study of the harp under Robert John, "Telynor Tegid." He later studied voice culture and the art of singing with Prof. David Parry and Prof. T. Amos Jones, R. A. M., the latter being a celebrated basso of the London and Provincial Concert, leaving north Wales for the United States in 1910. He later visited Wales with his wife, who was Dora Emeline Cober, whom he married Jan. 19, 1914. Mrs. Evans assisted him as accompanist for nine years. They returned to the States in August, 1914, after the war had started. After remaining in Johnstown a few months, they went to Oakland, Cal., where he studied under Otto Fleisner of San Francisco, Cal., later being his accompanist when Mr. Evans won the international tenor solo competition at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition of San Francisco,1915. During this time Mr. Evans was soloist and a member of the quartet at the First Presbyterian Church of San Francisco. During the World's Fair he sang two days for the Ancient Druids at the International Exposition Eisteddfod, to harp accompaniment, and twice to piano accompaniment, at the Eisteddfod, and was soloist during a special Welsh day program at the fair.
